Active Front Headrests

In certain lower-speed rear-end collisions, active front headrests [1] raise upward and forward, helping to decrease the movement of the head relative to the spine.

Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) with Active Height Control (X-AHC)

This advanced suspension system allows you to choose one of three settings, from Normal to Sport. It is designed to sense the character of the terrain and monitor your steering and braking movements to help ensure that your ride-comfort level is maintained. The system can also use Active Height Control (X-AHC) to raise or lower the vehicle to a more aerodynamic position or for additional ground clearance.

Advanced Audio Connectivity

Allows control and playing of compatible portable audio devices through the vehicle's audio system. The available USB connection can charge the battery of compatible devices, while Bluetooth^{®^{[2] can connect wirelessly.}}

At the touch of a button, the Advanced Parking Guidance System [3] can help parallel park the LS or back it into a space with just a little brake attention from the driver.

Bluetooth ™

Brake Assist

Brake Assist [7] helps provide increased brake pressure when the system detects an emergency stop. By monitoring how quickly and forcefully the brake pedal is pressed, Brake Assist [7] helps compensate by automatically applying increased braking boost until the pedal is released.

Climate Control - Dual - Zone

The driver and front passenger can set their own desired comfort level with the dual-zone automatic climate control. The system also features an air filter with an available automatic recirculation mode.

The four-zone climate control allows you and your passengers to select their own ideal temperature setting.

Crawl Control

Crawl Control [8] makes driving over rugged surfaces much easier on the driver. When activated, the system can automatically control the engine and brakeforce to help maintain the vehicle at a very slow and steady pace. This helps minimize tire slippage and prevents the vehicle from bouncing over rocks or pitching forward, so the driver can more fully concentrate on steering. In addition, the system helps to enhance control and diminishes the chances of bottoming the chassis on the terrain.

Direct Tire Pressure Monitor System

This system [9], alerts the driver when a tire's pressure is critically low, even when the vehicle is parked.

Driver Attention Monitor

The available Driver Attention Monitor [10] uses near-infrared optics designed to determine if driver is facing forward.

Driving Modes

Driver-selectable Normal/Default mode, ECO mode, Power mode and EV mode [11] [38] allow the driver to control throttle response by simply pressing a button.

Dual Exhaust System

The dual exhaust system allows exhaust gases to escape with less restriction, maximizing engine efficiency and power.

Dual Fuel Injection System

Available Dual Fuel Injection is a more advanced system that pairs a direct fuel injector with a conventional port injector for each cylinder. This allows smoother starts, increased power and fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions.

Dual Screen Rear Entertainment System

An available dual-screen Rear-Seat Entertainment System allows the left and right rear-seat passengers to watch or listen to the audio or video source of their choosing through independent A/V inputs. With seven-inch LCD screens located behind the driver’s and front passenger’s headrests, each system features a pair of wireless headphones [12] and can be used as a DVD player, audio player or game console via audio and video input jacks. A single remote controls both systems, and a standard electrical outlet is also provided.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

To help maintain a pre-set following distance, the available Dynamic Radar Cruise Control [13] uses radar technology. Should your vehicle get too close to the one traveling just ahead, the throttle is automatically reduced and the brakes are applied. As soon as the road ahead clears, your vehicle returns to your pre-selected speed.

Ecological Plastics ™

Ecological Plastics are plant-based rather than petroleum-based, helping to reduce the vehicle's carbon footprint over its life cycle.

Eight-Speed Automatic Transmission

This available eight-speed automatic transmission is the world's first. The additional eighth gear enables the vehicle to better match gear selection to driving conditions, offering seamless shifting, improved acceleration and enhanced fuel efficiency.

Electrochromatic Device Gauges

The clarity levels of these gauges automatically adjust when glare is detected for optimum visibility.

Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)

Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) monitors and modulates the amount of brake force delivered to each wheel based on the driving condition.

Electronic Parking Brake

An electronic parking brake is automatically activated as soon as the vehicle is placed in Park. As soon as the driver shifts into gear, the parking brake is automatically deactivated.

Electronic Power Steering (EPS)

An electric motor is used to provide power assist to the steering, making it smoother and more efficient. Plus, because the motor consumes energy only when power assist is necessary, it can even help improve fuel economy.

Electronic Controlled Braking (ECB) System

Available Electronic Controlled Braking (ECB) uses an electronic system to activate the brakes. A brake pedal position sensor reads the pedal's position and then activates the master cylinder accordingly.

Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission

The Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) allows the gasoline engine and electric motor to operate at peak efficiency, regardless of the vehicle's speed. And because it seamlessly distributes gas and electric power according to driving conditions, the ECVT aids in providing smooth acceleration and increased fuel efficiency.

Energy Monitor

The energy monitor allows you to observe the hybrid system in action. All the major components are represented, from the gasoline engine and electric-drive motor, to the batteries and wheels. As the vehicle accelerates, brakes or coasts, animated arrows on the screen show which way the power is being supplied, and if electricity is being generated or consumed, so you can see just how efficiently your vehicle is running. [38]

EV Mode

EV Mode [11] [38] allows the vehicle to operate at low speeds on the electric motor alone and will not use the gasoline engine. This technology has two major benefits: low noise and zero emissions. Maximum driving distance for EV mode is up to one kilometre, depending on battery charge and driving conditions.

Exhaust Heat-Recovery System

Uses exhaust-gas heat to warm interior cabin more rapidly as well as heats the engine coolant faster for improved cold-weather fuel efficiency.

Four-Channel ABS

Unlike a conventional Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), four-channel ABS allows the brakes for each wheel to be controlled independently. This helps allow provide shorter stopping times and enhanced control.

Front Wiper Deicer

When the deicer is activated, a heating element in the lower windshield aids in melting any ice that has accumulated on the wiper blades.

High-Performance Hybrid

Thanks to its two electric-drive motors, the GS Hybrid is capable of achieving a total of 340 horsepower [16]. And since it is a true high-performance sedan, it's also the first hybrid vehicle to be equipped with rear-wheel drive.[38]

Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC)

Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) [17] helps make the vehicle more manageable during hill climbing, or stopping and starting on slippery surfaces. While stopped on an incline, a vehicle may roll back once the driver steps off the brake. HAC helps prevent the vehicle from rolling back by gently applying the brakes and slowing down the vehicle’s slipping speed.

Homelink^®

This universal transceiver allows you to control up to three compatible remote devices such as the garage door or your entry gate—all with the touch of a button.

Hybrid System Indicator

The Hybrid System Indicator replaces the tachometer and shows the power demands placed on the hybrid system.

Hydrocarbon Adsorber and Catalyst (HCAC)

Linked to the two-way exhaust, this system helps prevent hydrocarbons contained within from being released into the atmosphere during cold start-up when catalysts are not up to temperature.

Illuminated Power Meter, Multi-information Display

This instrument panel features bright, electroluminescent gauges and a color TFT multi-information display that makes such things as outside temperature and important hybrid system information available at a glance.

Infrared Climate-Control Sensor

An available infrared sensor constantly monitors the rear-seat passengers' body surface temperatures to maintain the desired settings. Diffusers overhead can automatically cool or heat the rear zones as required. This system also includes an Air Purifier, which helps keep the cabin free of dust and pollen.

Intelligent Highbeam Headlamps

For optimal visibility, the available intelligent highbeam headlamps [18] can automatically switch from high beams to low beams if vehicles are detected ahead.

Intuitive Climate Control

Intuitive Climate Control sensors calculate how much sun is shining into the cabin, how fast the vehicle is traveling and whether the top is up or down. Depending on these factors, it activates lap-level vents to provide cooled air where you need it most. When driving at night, the lap vents automatically deliver a blast of extra heat. The controls are intuitive and easy to operate.

Intuitive Parking Assist

Available Intuitive Parking Assist utilizes ultrasonic sensors that are mounted to the front and rear bumpers that can detect the distance of objects around the vehicle. Most of the sensors will only operate at slow speeds (below 9 mph). When an object enters the detection range, the driver is alerted via available warning beeps and either through the NAV screen (if equipped) or an LCD screen in the instrument panel.

iPod/MP3/Windows Media Audio Port

The auxiliary audio port allows you to connect your iPod® [19]/MP3/Windows Media® Audio (WMA) device directly into the vehicle's audio system via a standard stereo miniplug.

Lane Depature Alert

Lane Departure Alert [20], helps notify the driver of unintended lane departure and can take corrective steering action to help keep the vehicle in the lane of travel.

LED Headlamps for Low-beam Use

Another Lexus first, these available Light-Emitting Diode (LED) headlamps are designed for low-beam use. Not only are these headlamps more efficient, they last longer than conventional bulbs. Each headlamp is fitted with five LED lights and has a distinctive blue tint, giving the vehicle a more modern appearance.

The Lexus Hybrid Drive [38] powertrain combines a conventional gasoline-powered engine with one or more electric-drive motors. Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers

When an available sensor detects the presence of rain on the glass, the wiper blades are activated at the appropriate speed.

Seats, Climate Comfort

Climate-comfort seats can be heated or cooled with perforations that allow air to circulate.

Seats, Heated/Ventilated

Available heated/ventilated front seats provide an additional level of comfort. On cold days, the seatbacks and cushions can be heated to a range of settings. And in warmer weather, you can select from three ventilation modes to circulate air through perforations in the leather trim.

Shift-by-Wire

Smart Card Key

Available SmartAccess [31] [32] transmitter comes in the form of a handsome card, and is in addition to the SmartAccess Key fob, and replaces a conventional key. SmartAccess Key Fob

The SmartAccess [31] [32] key transmits a signal to the vehicle, replacing the need for a conventional key to open the doors or trunk. And with the push of a button, it starts the vehicle's ignition.

Sport Direct-Shift Manual Mode

This advanced system provides a near-instant response (0.1 seconds) when using the Manual shift mode. This direct, crisp gear change results in impressively fast acceleration, even from a standing start.

Steering-Wheel-Mounted Paddle Shifters

Sport sedans with automatic transmissions are fitted with race-inspired available steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. They allow drivers to quickly upshift or downshift through gears without taking their hands off the wheel.

TFT Monitor

A color TFT multi-information display provides useful information, such as odometer and trip meters, outside temperature, remaining fuel in tank and total fuel consumption.

Three-mode Hybrid Control

Lexus Hybrids [38] equipped with this feature offer three different modes for driving: Hybrid, PWR (ECO Mode for RXh) and SNOW. Hybrid is used to operate the vehicle during normal conditions. PWR is best suited for mountainous regions or when greater acceleration is desired. And SNOW reduces the amount of torque delivered to the wheels, which helps minimize wheel slip on low-traction surfaces.

Three-Piece, Aluminum Retractable Hardtop

Operated via 15 electric motors, 37 sensors and a dedicated Electronic Control Unit (ECU), this three-piece hardtop retracts in approximately 20 seconds. [33]

Traction Control (TRAC)

Traction Control (TRAC) is designed to suppress the spinning of the driven wheels while driving on slippery surfaces. By activating individual brakes whenever the first signs of slippage are detected, the TRAC system helps prevent loss of traction and keep you in control.

USB Audio Support

The USB connection enables you to control your compatible iPod^® [19] audio player through the interface and offers the added benefit of powering the device whenever it is plugged in.

Variable Gear-Ratio Steering (VGRS)

This available electronic system actively adjusts the steering response. Variable Gear-Ratio Steering (VGRS) optimizes the steering-gear ratio to driving conditions for easier low-speed maneuvering and increased high-speed responsiveness and road feel.

Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i)

The engine’s valve timing is continuously adjusted to provide optimum power at any speed, while helping to improve fuel economy and reducing greenhouse-gas emissions.

Variable Valve Timing with intelligence and Electronic intake valve timing (VVTi-E)

VVT-iE works like dual VVT-i, but adds electronic timing control to the intake valves. Unlike conventional hydraulic systems, electronic control responds quicker and is not affected by cold operating conditions.

Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM)

While conventional vehicle stability features wait until a loss of traction has occurred, available VDIM [34] can predict and take steps to help prevent loss of traction during a turn by employing multiple vehicle features. When a series of sensors detects a potential problem, the system is designed to use a combination of individual-wheel braking, throttle activation and steering assistance to seamlessly correct the situation before a skid actually occurs.

Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) with Sport Mode

This sophisticated Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) [34] system adds a comprehensive Sport mode that supports high-performance driving on every front. If you are a very experienced driver, you can even turn it off, should you prefer to take matters into your own hands.

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)

VSC [35] uses sensors to identify when there is lateral slip in the tires during cornering and responds by applying the brakes and reducing the throttle, to help keep the vehicle on track.

Voice Command

A new, highly advanced available voice-recognition system that offers a much higher recognition rate than conventional systems. The most advanced voice-recognition system in its class, voice command enables you to place compatible Bluetooth^® [2] phone calls and operate climate, audio and navigation functions using normal, everyday speech.

Water-Repellent Front-Door Glass

For greater visibility during precipitation, the driver and front-seat passenger have the advantage of windows made from water-repellent front-door glass.

Wide-view Front and Side Monitor

The available Wide-view Front and Side Monitor [36] helps increase visibility around corners while driving at low speeds and while parking.

Wide-view Side Monitor

To assist you with parking and when negotiating narrow passes, an available Wide-view Side Monitor [37] camera built into the passenger-side mirror can display an overhead view to the right of the vehicle at slow speeds or when in reverse.

XM NavTraffic ^®

Available XM NavTraffic [5] [26] [28] alerts you to traffic conditions based on your location. Full integration with the vehicle's Navigation System [5] [28] allows you to choose a route around congested areas.
