Wheel Alignment

Is your vehicle pulling to one side, or shaking? It may be time for an alignment inspection. Proper alignment helps to ensure that all four wheels have even and optimal contact with the road, which helps:

  • improve steering response and handling performance
  • improve fuel efficiency
  • promote even tire wear
  • reduce wear on the rest of the suspension

Lexus highly recommends having your wheel alignment checked regularly. Other signs that might call for an alignment inspection include:

  • when steering pulls to one side
  • when the steering wheel is unstable or vibrates
  • when there is uneven wear on tires
  • when new tires or suspension components are installed
  • after a car accident (major or minor)
  • when riding is uncomfortable or fuel efficiency suddenly gets worse

*Alignments are not part of your regular scheduled maintenance, but an additional service.

Tire Sizes

When your Lexus vehicle was designed, the engineers and product planners carefully selected a tire size, considering many factors, including performance, safety, and fuel efficiency. Lexus recommends that you select the original tire size when selecting winter, performance, or all-season replacement tires. See your Lexus Dealership for details or visit our online tire store for tire sizes and recommendations.

Understanding Tire Sizes

  • P =

This indicates a Passenger car tire in P-metric sizes. Tire sizes without the “P” may also be made for passenger cars, but they are “European” metric sizes and may have different load ratings or speed ratings than P-metric tires.

  • 235 =

Tire width, measured from sidewall to sidewall in millimetres. This information is used to determine the width of the rim that the tire can be mounted on.

  • 40 =

Aspect ratio, indicating the height of the tire as a percentage of the width. In this case, the tire would be 94 mm (235 x 40%). High performance tires usually have a lower aspect ratio (below 55%) than other tires because lower ratios provide better stability. When turning, cars generate lateral forces that the tires must resist. Lower profile tires have shorter, stiffer sidewalls so they resist cornering forces better.

  • R =

Radial construction, indicating that the plies that strengthen and reinforce the tires radiate out at a 90 degree angle from the centre of the tire. This improves fuel economy in comparison to bias-ply tires, whose plies are at a 60% angle.

  • 19 =

The diameter, in inches, of the wheel that this tire can be mounted on, regardless of whether the tire is mounted on a steel or alloy wheel.

  • 99 =

The Load Index is a standard that applies to all tire manufacturer, classifying tires according to their load-carrying capacity, or how much weight they can support at maximum air pressure. In this case, a load index of 99 corresponds with 775 kg. Load indexes of the tires used on passenger cars and light trucks usually range from 80 to 110, corresponding with weight capacities between 450 and 1060 kg.

  • V =

The Speed Rating indicator, established to match the speed capability of tires with the top speed capability of the vehicles to which they are applied. The letter corresponds with a maximum speed rating, in kilometers per hour. Popular ratings on Lexus vehicles include: S-180km/h, T-190km/h, H-210km/h, V-240km/h. Despite the capability of the tires to operate at high speeds, Lexus vehicles should not be operated in excess of legal speed limits.

Performance Tires

Some Lexus vehicles come equipped with performance tires. Soft rubber compounds and shallow, narrow tread patterns maximize the rubber touching the road. Typically featuring a low-profile, performance tires have stiff sidewalls for sharp steering response and firm grip on dry pavement.

Facts & Features:

  • Sporty appearance and firm ride quality
  • Soft rubber compounds grip the road, but result in faster wear
  • Grooved treads shed water and prevent hydroplaning
  • Low profile can result in increased road noise and firmer, less comfortable ride quality

All-Season Tires

Some Lexus vehicles are equipped with All-Season Tires for good performance in a wide variety of conditions. With harder rubber compounds than performance tires, they have longer tread life and provide a quieter ride, but as conditions become more extreme, performance is reduced.

Facts & Features:

  • Longer tread life and quieter ride than performance tires
  • Tread designs provide low rolling resistance and improved fuel efficiency
  • Strong, flexible sidewalls and mid-range aspect ratios provide a balance of ride comfort and nimble handling
  • Deeply grooved treads take rainwater away from the tire
  • In many Provinces, you will still need to switch to Winter Tires for optimal traction and performance

Winter Tires

Winter Tires are designed to perform optimally, playing a crucial role in overall vehicle safety and performance, in both snowy conditions and cold temperatures. They’re recommended whenever average daily temperatures fall below 7°C and are legally required on all passenger vehicles in Quebec, between December 1st and March 15th.

Facts & Features:

  • Unidirectional/V-groove tread designs are best at moving slush and snow out of the way
  • Large, open tread blocks with many tiny slits (sipes), cut through deep snow and perform better on wet pavement
  • Specialized, soft tread compounds dig into snow, stick to ice at low temperatures, and contribute to a comfortable ride on cold pavement
  • Optimal performance in cold weather temperatures
  • Enhanced vehicle stability control (VSC) operation and smoother take-off when equipped with traction control (TRAC)

Alloy Wheels

Lexus Alloy Wheels are the perfect complement to your winter tires, to face Canadian winter road conditions with confidence. They’ve been tested according to Lexus’ stringent specifications for strength, durability, corrosion, and finish.

Facts & Features:

  • Mounting and dismounting your winter tires on one set of alloy wheels repeatedly can cause unnecessary wear to your tires’ bead and sidewall.
  • Mounting them permanently on a second set of alloy wheels prevents wear and tear on your tires.
  • This is more convenient, and lessens the time it takes to change your tires.
  • This also lowers costs as you won’t have to mount and balance your tires twice a year.
